Mr. Delattre founded the Delattre Dance Company in 2012 with an ensemble of six dancers with their first project evening eXchange at the Mainzer Kammerspiele Theater. At this time, as well as directing and choreographing, Mr. Delattre was also performing as an artist of the ensemble.

From these humble beginnings, and together with Martin Opelt the company’s executive director, the company has grown to an ensemble of twelve dancers together with the Delattre Dance Juniors, a further eight dance artists.

The DDC remains one of the very few highly successful privately run and led dance institutions in Germany and perhaps the only of its artistic level and scope to exist without a supporting production home or gauranteed operating budget and only the most minimal of project based government subsidies.

The company is busy planning and rehearsing for its upcoming 10th anniversary season, which should be another watermark year for the

now established ensemble, and can now look back on the impressive accomplishments of these first ten years together:

• The companies upcoming 10 year celebration Gala will feature the international dance superstar Polina Semionova from the

Staatsballett Berlin, as well as other principal guest artists from the Czech National Ballet and the Vienna Staatsoper Ballett. This event on May 29th in the Staatstheater Mainz Opernhaus turns the page to the next 10 years of artistic growth, expression, experimentation, collaboration, and further excellence.

• The Company has presented 22 full evening dance productions alongside its 2014 DDC and Friends Gala for its ever growing and passionate dance audience in Mainz.

• From these evenings Mr. Delattre has created 37 one act pieces for the companies repertoire and invited 24 choreographic guests to share the evening with him the likes of; Marco Goecke, Jörge Mannes, Bridget Breiner, Kenneth Tindall, Maurice Causey and Regina van Berkel.

• Mr. Delattre has created four full-length narrative ballets that have established him as one of the new generation of dance story-tellers and been the calling card of the companies European touring. Alice in Wonderland, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Notre Dame de Paris, and Momo will be joined by a new story ballet in the planning for next Spring.

• The company has slowly increased its audience base an astonishing 400+% in its short time, and averages an impressive 93.7% attendance at its home theater the Mainzer Kammerspiele.

• The DDC is a favorite of the German Gala circuit appearing as a featured guest in Galas such as; Gauthier and Friends Dance Gala, and the Galas of the theater ensembles of Munich, Hagen, Koblenz, Waiblingen, Giessen, among others.

• The DDC was named the official house ensemble of the Landestheater Detmold for the 2019-2020 Season. Our newest full-evening production Shakespeare in Motion was a result of this collaboration. Mr. Delattre’s new works WILL.I.AM and Othello were completed by Jörg Mannes’ A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream for this triple-bill together with the Orchestra of the Landestheater Detmold.

• The leadership team of Mr. Delattre and Mr. Opelt manage this prolific artistic output without the infrastructure of a theater to support them. All duties that would normally fall on departments for dramaturgy, fund-raising, marketing, press, development, and education are accomplished from their hands alone. A daunting challenge, but one that they manage to none-the-less deliver in the expected style and flair that the Delattre Dance Company is known for.

As one of the highlights of Mr. Delattre’s career so far, is his appointment by the French government to the Chevalier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres. This prestigious award of distinction rightly honors his many years of contributions in the international realm of Dance as an Ambassador of his homeland, France. Mr. Delattre has enjoyed creating works for many notable ensembles throughout the world and in his base country, Germany. Among them are National Ballet Split (Croatia), National Modern Dance Company Ankara (Turkey), Dance Company State Theater Kielce (Poland), International Dance Festival Busan (Korea), Staatsoper Ballett Hanover, Ballett des Staatstheater Mainz, Ballett des Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Ballet Augsburg, Tanzkompanie Staatstheater Braunschweig, Gallus Theater Frankfurt, Ballett Hagen, Ballett Koblenz (All in Germany).

Stéphen has also recently forayed into the genre of Musicals with his choreography for Das Sherlock Musical for which he was lauded by the critics.

Mr. Delattre has been commissioned to make Gala repertoire for star dancers around the world including principles from the Paris Opera Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, English National Ballet, Semperoper Ballett and Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

Next to professional companies, he has also taught, coached, led workshops and choreographed with prestigious dance academies such as the Elmhurst Young Ballet in Birmingham (England), National Dance Academy Beijing (China), Conservatoire National Supérieur de Danse Lyon, the Ecole Supérieure de Danse Cannes and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Danse Marseille (All France).
